These queens are truly unique and very special.  Over the years we have continually focused our breeding efforts by only selecting from the very BEST. Years ago our genetic backbone was heavily influenced by the feral mutt bee found expressing Carniolan x Italian x Buckfast characteristics and attributes. After years of selecting from colonies that had the LOWEST mite counts, HIGHEST winter survivorship, CALMEST behavior and most PROLIFIC yields, we chose to carefully introduce a special new line of genetics. 

We crossed BREEDER QUEENS from our WINTER HARDY, GENTLE and PROLIFIC Ohio Queen lines with New World Carniolan x Caucasian genetic lines sourced from Bob Binnie/Sue Cobey. 

After crossing the Southern Appalachian line of BREEDER QUEENS with our Northern Appalachian line of BREEDER QUEENS we have been blown away with the results. Beautiful Queens with colonies that brood down in the fall, over winter with frugality, explode in the spring when the timing is right and maintain a prolificness rarely seen in other genetic lines.

Our Appalachian Mutt Queens exhibit characteristics such as cold hardiness, gentle disposition, darker in color (lighter coloration is possible), increased propolis and honey production and easy to work with.

Folks across the country have used our queens to also cool off spicy colonies and to introduce fresh genetics into their breeding operations. The coveted Pepto Pink line of queens is the line of Appalachian Mutt Queens we developed for Bruce Jenne in Alabama to help sooth the heartburn of his spicy colonies! IT WORKED!
